Yves Peeters (°1978)
Yves plays the drums since the age of fourteen, back then playing mainly rock and funk music. When he was seventeen, he discovered jazz and one year later he enrolled in the jazz department of the Lemmensinstituut (Conservatory of Leuven), where he graduated in 2002. During and after his studies, Yves got lessons with great drummers like Dré Pallemaerts, Billy Hart and Keith Copeland. He also participated in several jazz workshops in Belgium and abroad.
In Belgium Yves learned a lot by playing with great musicians such as Laurent Blondiau, Bart Defoort, Kris Defoort, Jozef Dumoulin, Bert Joris, Steve Houben, Tcha Limberger, Jacques Pirotton, Ben Sluijs, Nicolas Thys, Frank Vaganée, Hans Van Oost, Jack Van Poll, Erik Vermeulen, …. He was leader and co-leader of different bands: Walkin’ Tiptoe Quartet, Vansina/Peeters Quartet, Yves Peeters Quartet featuring Kris Defoort, and Le Petit Cirque.
Yves has regularly travelled abroad to play concerts. In 2003 he played in Berlin for the Belgian Embassy with Joachim Badenhorst Trio, in 2005 he played in New York for the Embassy of Luxemburg with Marc Demuth Quartet. In 2004 he toured in South Africa with Tutu Puoane Quartet and in 2004, 2005 and 2008 in Portugal with Marc Demuth Quartet featuring Sofia Ribeiro. From 2004 to 2007 he toured in Germany every year with Peer Baierlein Quartet, and in 2008 he went to Finland with aNoo. In 2009 he was invited by the Bamako Jazz Festival in Mali to play with Yves Peeters Group. That same year he played at the Jazz au Chellah Festival in Rabat (Morocco) with Marc Demuth Quartetand at the Baltic Guitar Festival in Vilnius (Lithuania) with Luz de Luna.
Nowadays Yves is mainly engaged in his own project Yves Peeters Group. As a sideman, he also plays with aNoo, Barbara Wiernik, Koen Nys Quintet, Luz de Luna,Peer Baierlein Quartetand UTZ. With these projects, you can watch him play in jazz clubs, cultural centres and on festival stages in Belgium and abroad. –> Concerts
